Chef ‘s specialFor this transitional entertainer’s kitchen, Lisa Steinbach Schecter created two islands – one a large, square work zone, the other an elliptical serving area with a bar top and seating. This creates an efficient figure-8 movement between the main areas and ensures the owners can socialize while cooking. To avoid overwhelming the art, the aesthetic is expressed in the play of materials and tonal contrasts. The rosewood-stained maple cabinetry on the island, with recessed panels of curly maple, is matched with perimeter cabinets in a butter-cream stain.
