Disappearing actThis kitchen by Lisa Steinbach Schecter and Jerry Phillips (the homeowner) has been remodeled to meld with a great room. Common materials and design elements were part of the concept. An antique buffet was retrofitted to accommodate the main sinks, while another painted buffet houses the cooktop. An Empire-style walnut armoire, circa 1800, doubles as a pantry. To give the new cabinetry the look of freestanding furniture, two different finishes were used. Scroll patterns and chamfered edging mimic the detailing of the French antiques. Appliances are fully integrated or set behind doors. |
